The Career Development Center’s primary purpose is to foster students’ career readiness through involvement in activities that promote self-assessment, career exploration, reality testing and decision making and to provide rich and varied connections to employers and the world of work. The Career Development Center serves all students and encourages them to visit the office early in their program of study to identify services that will be valuable to them in reaching their professional goals.
Along with individual advising, the Career Development Center provides career workshops and events which assist students in pursuing their career plans. Topics include career decision-making, resume writing, job search strategies, interviewing skills and more. The Career Development Center hosts Handshake, the leading on-line career management system for students, providing access to career resources, events, and connections to employers. Through Handshake students may schedule career advising appointments, sign-up for special events, and manage their search.
The Career Development Center works with a variety of agencies and organizations throughout Manchester, the surrounding area and beyond and actively engages alumni and employers in campus recruitment, panel discussions, career programs, mock interviews, networking events and informational interviews. The Career Development Center hosts networking events and career fairs for Saint Anselm College students and in collaboration with the New Hampshire College and University Council (NHCUC). Students are encouraged to participate in regional career fairs, employer or alumni sponsored career events, and professional associations to develop their career networks.
Internships are an important component of the Saint Anselm College experience, and the Career Development Center serves as a focal point for coordinating the College’s internship offerings. The Career Development Center serves as a helpful resource to students in preparing for these experiential learning opportunities by providing individual career advising, feedback on application materials, search strategies, interview practice, and more. Students are supported in pursuing non-credit internships, but also credit bearing internships related to their academic and career interests. For credit bearing internships, students may seek credit through their major department or through the Economics and Business Department internship program, which is open to students in all majors, and is coordinated by the Career Development Center.
The Career Development Center collaborates with academic departments to assist students in understanding the many and varied pathways from major to career, exploring those options through internships and other experiential learning opportunities, and developing lifelong career management skills (i.e., search strategies, networking, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, etc.).
