The financial aid process for a graduate student is a separate process from that of an undergraduate. While the Office of Financial Aid may utilize information from the undergraduate file for a graduate applicant, no financial assistance carries over from the undergraduate program to the graduate program.

The primary responsibility for a student’s education belongs to the individual and/or his or her parents. Saint Anselm College assumes that the family will make the maximum effort to provide for the expenses of a Saint Anselm education. However, we recognize that meeting the cost of a quality private college education is a challenge for many students and families. In order to help students afford their Saint Anselm College education, the Office of Financial Aid distributes financial assistance based on a number of factors including federal policy, institutionally determined financial need, academic qualifications, and the availability of resources.

The College will create a partnership with the student and family. We offer a combination of scholarships, grants, loans, and work opportunities to students who exhibit financial need as well as limited merit scholarships to students who demonstrate high academic achievement as determined by the Academic Department. These and other resources are available at www.anselm.edu/tuition-financial-aid.

Need-Based Financial Aid: Application Process and Information

The priority deadline for graduate applicants to complete the financial aid process is October 15 of the year prior to enrollment. The college offers limited need-based institutional aid. Those receiving the funding were need-based aid recipients with significant demonstrated need as undergraduate students. Applicants who qualified for need-based funding at the undergraduate level and had significant financial need at that time will be considered for need-based funding if a FAFSA is submitted by the priority filing date.

Satisfactory Academic Progress

The federal government requires that colleges monitor Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). According to federal regulations and Saint Anselm College policy, students must make both qualitative and quantitative SAP to receive federal financial aid. The graduate Satisfactory Academic Progress review is separate from the undergraduate process.  Only graduate grades earned at Saint Anselm College will be considered in the graduate review. For the purpose of determining financial aid eligibility, Saint Anselm College reviews SAP after every term for graduate students.  Students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.0 and complete at least 75% of credits attempted.  Saint Anselm College will not replace lost federal aid with institutional aid for students who do not maintain SAP. Detailed information regarding SAP is provided on our web site and in our consumer information brochure (www.anselm.edu/tuition-financial-aid).

Non-Need Based Aid: Scholarships, Grants

Saint Anselm College offers a finite number of scholarships and graduate assistantships based on a student’s academic achievement, demonstrated leadership skills, and/or other criteria. Limited athletic aid may be available. All non-need based aid other than athletic aid is offered by the academic department.

The Family Grant is not available to graduate students or an undergraduate sibling of a graduate student.

2022-2023 Scholarship Programs Amount

Merit Scholarship Up to $6,000 per year

Graduate Assistantship Up to full tuition

Athletic Aid Determined by Athletics Department

The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program

This federal program provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. TEACH Grant recipients must agree to serve as a full-time teacher in a high-need field serving low-income students. Failure to complete the service requirement will result in the TEACH Grant converting to an Unsubsidized Stafford Loan with interest accruing from the date the grant(s) was disbursed. If you are interested in further information, please contact the Office of Financial Aid.

External Funding: Outside (Local) Scholarships and Grants

We strongly urge students to apply for outside scholarships and grants available through, the web, and local civic and business organizations. We support these efforts by allowing private scholarships to replace unmet need, then need-based self-help (loans and Federal Work Study). If the outside grant aid is in excess of these resources, we will then reduce need-based Saint Anselm College gift aid.

Self-help Resources: Loans and Student Employment

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan:

These low-interest educational loans are offered to eligible domestic aid applicants in amounts of up to $20,500 per academic year.

Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan:

This is a federally backed low-interest, fixed-rate loan to students for up to the cost of a student’s attendance minus any other financial aid for which the student is eligible.

Private Loans:

There are many private loans available to students with a credit-worthy co-borrower. We encourage students to first utilize federal resources before private ones.

Federal Work Study (FWS):

This is a federally-funded program that offers students with demonstrated need, part-time employment to help meet the students’ incidental costs. Eligible students may work either on campus or at a FWS Community Service job off campus and are authorized to earn up to a specified amount; however, they are not guaranteed employment to that level.

Saint Anselm College Employment:

Graduate Assistantships are considered a form of Student Employment.  Other limited student employment opportunities may be available.
