BI 321 - Marine Biology


An introduction to the function, diversity, and ecology of marine organisms and their environment. This course introduces the major groups of marine organisms, marine ecosystems, and human impacts on the marine environment. Laboratory sessions include studies on ocean acidification, several field trips to local marine habitats, and identification and dissection of  a variety of organisms, many from coastal habitats in the Northwest Atlantic. Students should expect at least one or two Saturday field trips. This course is offered in alternating years.

Note: Meets the Global Outcome (GLOB)

Three hours of lecture and three hours of laboratory each week for one semester Four credits.

Pre or Co-requisite(s): BI 103 - BI 104 or equivalent as determined by Department Chair.
