ED 311 - Getting Schooled: The Politics & Promise of American Education Many Americans understand that education in the United States is fraught with politics. From funding disparities between school districts to teachers’ qualifications; from prayer in schools to teaching the theory of evolution; from high stakes testing to the United States’ performance rankings globally, political perspectives inform how people respond to controversial issues in schools. This class will enable students to build a framework for understanding policy contests in the educational context, and develop broad, original, bipartisan policy proposals for reforming education in America.
