MU 245 - World Music This course explores the musical cultures of select regions (Africa, India, Southeast Asia, Middle East, and the Americas) from the disciplinary perspective of ethnomusicology, a field that emphasizes the direct connections between social structures and musical sound/aesthetics. Students are exposed to the disciplinary methods of ethnomusicology, including its the study of non-Western music in a series of analytical assignments and presentations. At the end of this course, students should have a better understanding of an intellectual approach to studying and listening to music in other cultures.
