PY 312 - History and Systems of Psychology This course will explore the history of psychology and seminal research studies conducted in the field of psychology. We will discuss the roots of psychology in philosophy and physiology, as well as the origins of psychology in European as well as American history. In particular, we will explore the history of behaviorism, Gestalt psychology, psychopathology, structuralism, and functionalism. In the course, we will explore the origins of psychology in the context of their respective historical periods and examine the continuity and changes in the field of psychology over time. Students will also examine and discuss modern psychology in relation to its past. We will read and discuss seminal papers in psychology related to cognition, personality, emotion & motivation, and social psychology.
Four credits.
Prerequisite(s): PY 101 or permission of the instructor.
