ED 352 - The Graphic Novel for Humanities

This course focuses on the understanding of and instruction of the graphic novel, an art form that has emerged from three interwoven histories: the introduction and circulation of the newspaper comic strip, the rise of the comic book, and the work of experimental artists in the graphic realm.  In this course, students critically read and think about, discuss, write about, and produce graphic works. By doing so, students will reflect on the best classroom pedagogies for instruction through group and individual class presentations. Thus, part of the class will be devoted to the consumption of theory, another to the creative production of graphic work, and still another to the pedagogies of instruction. Accordingly, students will be introduced to technology that will allow them to present annotated images for classroom discussion and produce graphic chapters without the need for a particular set of artistic skills

Note: Meets Citizenship Learning Outcome (AEST) and Writing Intensive Learning Outcome (WI)
