BI 106 - Introduction to Environmental Science


This course explores fundamental principles of biology and earth science to provide  a context for understanding environmental policies and resource management practices. It serves as an introduction to the environmental sciences with a focus on the relationships between biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, ecosystem services, and their interactions with society and the economy. Through lectures, discussions, case studies, and field/lab activities, students will develop critical thinking skills to understand and address impacts of humans on the environment and explore strategies for sustainable environmental management.

Note: Meets Scientific Reasoning Learning Outcome (SCI).

Three (3) hours of lecture and three (3) hours of laboratory each week for one semester. Four credits.
