Five Majors in the History and Classics Department
The History and Classics Department offers students the choice of five majors: History, Classics, Classical Archeology, Legal Studies, and American Studies. Students in these majors cultivate the ability to think critically, examine and weigh words and human processes carefully, and communicate effectively. The department, by teaching these universally recognized skills, prepares its students for careers in both academic and non-academic professions. Most students enter the work place at graduation, going into education, business, government, and related fields. Recent graduates have entered advanced degree programs in history, classics, law, business administration, international relations, library science, education, public administration, museum science, and religion. The department also encourages students with concentrations in other disciplines-whether in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, or pre-professional fields-to supplement their studies with courses in History and Classics.
