The mission of the Physics Department is to provide an outstanding learning experience that centers around the study of the natural world and to impart in our students curiosity, understanding, and the tools to be leaders in today’s job market. The department offers both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, each of which comprises a sequence of courses that introduces students to study the models and laws that describe our Universe. In addition to these two degree paths, the department offers a double-major program in physics with certification for teaching at the secondary level, as well as dual-degree (3-2) engineering programs in partnership with other institutions. The Physics Department also offers minors in Astrophysics, Earth & Space Science, Physics, and Quantum Information Science. Details on these programs are below.

Physics 4+1 Master’s of Science Program

Saint Anselm College offers an accelerated five-year program in affiliation with the University of Massachusetts Lowell that culminates in a bachelor’s degree from Saint Anselm College after four years of study and a master’s of science degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell after an additional year of study, instead of the usual two years of study required for a master’s of science degree. Students have the option to specialize in physics, applied physics, or medical physics. Students are required to work with their academic advisor to ensure that they meet the specific requirements for the program. For additional information, please contact the Chair of the Physics Department.

Dual-degree (3-2) Engineering Program

Saint Anselm College offers a five-year liberal arts and engineering program in affiliation with other institutions. Requirements vary by program and partner school, and students are therefore required to work with their academic advisor in order to ensure that they meet the specific requirements for the program they choose. For additional information, please contact the Chair of the Physics Department.
