Art History Major Requirements:
I. Introduction to Art and Architectural History (10 credits/3 courses)
II. Historical Foundations (12 credits/3 courses)
Ancient/Medieval (1 from the list below)
Early Modern (1 from the list below)
Modern/Contemporary (1 from the list below)
Note:
Special Topics or Independent Study courses may be substituted with the permission of the student’s advisor and the Fine Arts Department Chairperson.
III. Art History Focus Courses (8 credits/2 courses from the list below)
Note:
2 courses taken in Category II and III must be designated as Cross-Cultural (indicated by *)
IV. Immersive Experience in the Arts (4 credits/1 course from the list below)
V. Art History Capstone (1 Course + 2 additional requirements)
Note:
Subsequent years will be planned in consultation with an advisor in relation to individual student’s needs and interests, including internships and study abroad programs.
A student who wishes to major in Art History after the first semester of the junior year must have permission of the Fine Arts Department Chair, who will also consult with appropriate faculty in the student’s selected major. Transferring late to the major may result in enrollment in additional courses in summer school and/or a later graduation date.
